ABOUT ME
I am a production designer and artist with a focus on world-building and the human relationship to space. My background in film and art history motivates my approach to transforming space. I’m drawn to surrealism and the emotional invocations of a scene, and also to artists like Ana Mendieta and Gordon Matta-Clark, who use the natural environment as a medium for prompting deep reflection about manufactured space and its ability to be alive. I see space as deeply informative to a certain inner part of ourselves, in both how we construct and inhabit it. Revealing this part of character is exactly what I am interested in as an artist and thinker.
My work typically starts with this kind of contemplation about character and deep research. In a recent project, I designed an imagined artist studio for Agnès Varda during her time in California during the 1970s, specifically rooted in the houseboat community of Sausalito, explored in her short film Uncle Yanco. I am drawn to this sort of imaginative project that explores expression in magical or realist narratives, and I’m actively looking to bring that sensibility into the work I am a part of.
